Welcome to Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #520
Welcome to my Ten Year Anniversary special. Here are TEN Salesforce tips from the team at Cloud Galacticos, from MuleSoft to Success From Anywhere, and Trailhead to Apple shortcuts. Plus a special guest for Tip 10…
Tip 1 – Task Manager
As a Project Manager I have projects of various size, length and complexity to work on in any given day, as you can imagine my to do list is everything!
My Salesforce tip is called Todoist. It’s a free, collaborative tool and covers everything we were looking for.
I can share my to do list with colleagues, create recurring tasks, assign tasks to myself or others, create a simple list view or a kanban view – particularly useful for creating to do lists for different projects and displaying them together.
All in all I would highly recommend this if you’re looking for a similar tool.
Tip 2 – Salesforce Ecosystem
To get into the Salesforce Ecosystem you need to set yourself apart by accessing training resources such as Salesforce Trailhead, this is a self-study platform where you can teach yourself, it contains modules and other learning tools that can help you prepare for the exam.
Look for training courses which are available as either self-directed study or online learning as they can help with your understanding and prepare for exams.
Update your CV. Highlight your transferable skills, any relevant soft skills and experiences gained within Salesforce to show your hands-on experience. Connect with dedicated recruitment consultants as they often help with your CV and offer additional support and prep for upcoming interviews.
Tip 3 – Presentation Skills
Over the last number of years I have had the opportunity to speak at a number of different events in the Salesforce ecosystem. One of the things that I get asked about is how do you get started? Honestly, I’ve been speaking at events for almost 20 years at this point, so I guess my advice would be to speak up and ask people for opportunities. If you’ve got a great session idea, find your local community group and ask the CGL if you can do it.
Community Groups are always looking for new speakers and new content, so by doing that you help the CGL out by providing a speaker and give yourself the opportunity to speak. Other things such as confidence and capability as a speaker in my view come largely from experience.
Tip 4 – Datatable
As a believer in flows my first stop when looking for flow related components is UnofficialSF. One of my favourite apps or component is the Datatable which has become easier and easier to install over the years.
The Datatable is the go to app when I need to present a table of data to the users via flow. As flow becomes the prepared automation tool by Salesforce, UnofficialSF is in a good place to become the most popular flow resource.
Tip 5 – Success From Anywhere
Like Salesforce, Cloud Galacticos is a ‘Success From Anywhere‘ company. It means that I can travel and explore Spain and France during the summer.
During the day I would work then in the evenings and weekends, I would explore wherever I happen to be. The thing I kept in mind was the time difference with it being France and Spain, it was only an hour ahead of the UK meaning I didn’t need to change anything when working with clients.
Even though I was in different countries I was connected to my colleagues on a daily basis and speaking to clients. And having Storm, a husky, with me made it more interesting!
Tip 6 – Path Optimiser
A great way to increase Email Open Rate/Clicks Rate is by using Path Optimiser. It’s one of the new features in Marketing Cloud Journeys.
For businesses, if the KPI is mostly about the Email Open and Clicks Rate, then Path Optimiser is the best solution. Path Optimiser helps marketers to test multiple variants of the email and also in testing additional channels like SMS, Advertising Campaigns etc.
There are no additional development efforts required. Plus there’s an option to use Artificial Intelligence in one of the test paths.
Tip 7 – Never Split the Difference
The book emphasises the importance of emotional intelligence without sacrificing deal-making power. From the pen of a former hostage negotiator – someone who would not take no for an answer – which makes fascinating reading, but it’s also eminently practical.
“The fastest and most efficient means of establishing a quick working relationship is to acknowledge the negative and defuse it”.
In the pages of the book, you will find the techniques for getting the deal you want.
Negotiations, as someone once said to me, is “the art of letting someone else have your own way”. It’s an art well worth learning.
Tip 8 – MuleSoft Composer
As a MuleSoft Lead Developer at Cloud Galacticos, I was excited to find out about MuleSoft Composer. It’s the first tool of its kind released by Salesforce.
It builds on the achievements of the core MuleSoft platform to help businesses move rapidly through their digital transformation.
Some of its benefits include: no code required, it’s similar to Flow but allows you to integrate with other systems; it’s embedded which means you can access it from within Salesforce; and Composer has 10+ pre-built integrated connectors for the system including Slack, Google Sheets, Jira, and Microsoft Teams.
Tip 9 – Apple Shortcuts
As a relatively new Apple user I have found it very useful to take a few minutes and learn the gestures and keyboard shortcuts first. This makes my work so much easier now.
My favourites so far are the 3-finger drag swipe between open pages, and the Shift-Command-4 which allows you to print screen a section from your screen and saves it automatically to your desktop.
I have also found it useful to close my laptop with Control-Command-Q, so no one can have access while I am not at my desk.
Tip 10 – No Limits
Gavin Bilton (UK Strongest Man 2020/21) was our special guest at this year’s London’s Calling event.
“Be absolutely relentless in your pursuit of your Goal. We have no limits, the only thing that holds us back is your mind.
We are stronger than we will ever know. Face life head on and never back down. Belief conquers all.”
