Dreamforce 2021: What we are looking forward to

If you’re part of the Salesforce eco-system, Dreamforce needs no introduction. But if you’re not, then Dreamforce is a ‘global family reunion for all [Salesforce] stakeholders… where we share innovation, customer success, and thought leadership.’ The event returns next week, Tuesday 21st to Thursday 23rd September 2021.

Salesforce+

Salesforce Plus

This year Dreamforce 2021 will be in-person in San Francisco (invite-only), and streamed free online via the all-new Salesforce+. Expect over 100+ hours of original content spread across four channels, covering every role, industry, and topic.

Dreamforce 2021 Highlights

As with previous Dreamforce event, there’s plenty for Trailblazers to keep busy over the three days. Expect over 100+ hours of original content spread across four channels, covering every role, industry, and topic. Here are some of the highlights from Dreamforce 2021 that some of us at Cloud Galacticos are looking forward to:

Ben Duong, Marketing Manager

It’d be strange this year being virtual (unless you got an invite for the in-person event in San Francisco), but glad that more people can experience it. For me the keynote with Marc Benioff is always a highlight. It’s a good pep talk and you get the latest updates from the man himself. The special guests are always a nice surprise.

I will miss the buzz of being in San Francisco, but the show must go on. Fingers crossed again for Dreamforce 2022!

Paul Battisson, COO

Hearing more about the Slack acquisition and the vision for how it will enhance what you can already do on the platform. Salesforce has made a big investment by purchasing Slack and I’m sure they will have a ton of ideas on how to make the most out of combining the two.

The other thing for me is always the developer information – what new tech will we get to see and play with? I’m expecting Salesforce Functions/Evergreen will feature heavily, but the session being called “Innovation from Anywhere with Salesforce Developers” makes me hope there is some new announcement about Salesforce Code Builder.”

Phil Walton, CEO

It is good to see that despite the much reduced amount of content at this virtual DF, there is still room for ‘True to the Core’. It is great to see the new stuff, the hype of new tools, clouds, things being launched ‘soon’…but for many of us there are also tweaks and improvements to existing features, and that is what is given the much needed TLC here.

Another session I will keep an eye out for is ‘Tapping into the Gold Medal Mindset’ on Day 3. I am totally guessing here, but with Salesforce’s partnership with TeamGB, I am hoping maybe we can get to hear from some of the heroes of the Olympics and Paralympics, and hear more about the partnership.  See info about the partnership here...”

Consultancy Dreamin is Here…

As the Salesforce trailblazer community continues to grow, the demand for events by ‘the people for the people’ is strong. And on Thursday 8th July 2021, Consultancy Dreamin will join an already awesome list of Salesforce community events. Normally these are location focussed such as London’s Calling, Singapore Dreamin, Down Under Dreamin, or Midwest Dreamin. Consultancy Dreamin will be 100% online and aimed at anyone who already is or wants to be a Salesforce Consultant.

Consultancy Dreamin

According to to the Consultancy Dreamin website: ’Every presentation will be tailored to help you understand more about this role, check out if consultancy is for you, how consultancy skills can benefit you in any Salesforce position and the importance in your day-to-day job , as well as plenty of tips and advice from experts about getting the most out of a career as a Salesforce Consultant.

As per other Dreamin events, it’ll be a jam-packed day from 10.30am to 7pm. It’d be filled with keynote speakers, sessions, panels, and a Demo Jam. The sessions will be divided into topics, here are some of our highlights to look out for:

‘Skills’

Francis Pindar: ‘The Key ‘One-Pagers’ Every Consultant Should Use

Houssam Saoudy: ‘How Salesforce Admins Should Think About the Code?

Paul Battisson: 10 Things Every Salesforce Consultant Can Learn From Jurassic Park’

Consultancy Dreamin – Paul Battisson

“I love the idea of the event being focussed around consulting and less on the specific details of technology. As much as I love a deep dive into a specific tool, often the hardest problems we deal with day to day are those related to individuals and communication around the project. Hopefully this event can help everyone improve these skills to make delivering good outcomes easier.” Paul Battisson, Cloud Galacticos COO

‘Experience’

Paul Harris: ‘10 Things You Might Not Expect From Being a Consultant’

London’s Calling 2021 Review

As a UK Salesforce consultancy, we, Cloud Galacticos, are always proud to sponsor and support London’s Calling. This year’s event happened last Friday 19th March. And as always, the team behind the event did a great job. Here’s our quick review of London’s Calling 2021.

Attendify

Firstly, we have to mention the new online events platform Attendify. It worked well as an online version of the ‘real thing’. Everything was organised in an appropriate manner and was easy to navigate. You could see which sessions were happening, check out the sponsors, and chat to other attendees. Overall, it really made the day run smoothly and a better experience than if it was all on Zoom.

“I was instantly impressed by the look and feel of the London’s Calling desktop platform. It was really easy to navigate and find my way around. I was able to see which sessions were live as well as being able to chat with other attendees in real time.” Ben Duong, Head of Marketing, Cloud Galacticos

London’s Calling 2021 Sessions

Paul Battisson’s Session London’s Calling 2021

As per previous years, there were plenty of awesome sessions to choose from. From the ‘Top 10 project risks’ to ‘getting connected in Salesforce Field Service’, and ‘implementing lightning message service’ to ‘using Salesforce to create happier workplaces’. Of course, we may be biased, but our COO at Cloud Galacticos, Paul Battisson’s session ‘Turn it up to 11 – Improving the Performance of Your Apex Code’ was pretty good..!

It was another great event from the team which had a jam packed line-up. From the speaker’s perspective it was a nice change being able to engage with the audience through the live chat during the session as they were all pre-recorded.

Often you are just looking at a room full of faces and unsure what people are thinking. With the chat function I was able to get more real time feedback on people’s thoughts as well as answer questions as they came up rather than waiting until the end.

The London’s Calling attendees were as engaged as ever and it definitely helped make the event feel far more connected.” Paul Battisson, COO, Cloud Galacticos

London’s Calling 2021 Demo Jam

The Demo Jam is always a highlight for us. We enjoy the fast paced nature and seeing our peers perform under pressure. This year’s demo jam was done live and online. There were demos from the likes of Gearset, Copado, Provar and Own Backup. The winner, chosen by the attendees, was Gearset.

London’s Calling 2022

As we wrap up another great London’s Calling event, all eyes are on next year’s event. As great as this year’s event was online, the general consensus was that it’d be great to be able to meet in person again for 2022. The Salesforce Ohana are a social bunch, and we also enjoy being able to catch up with our trailblazer community – as well as meeting new people and making new friends. So fingers crossed all around!

Best Practices and Thoughts on Virtual Events

Over the past few months we have seen a number of events cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and a number of events go virtual. Last week  Salesforce announced all its events including Dreamforce will now be re-imagined and virtual. Because of this, I thought I would share some best practices and thoughts on virtual events to help you make the most of them.

North England Salesforce User Group Virtual Event

Virtual vs In-Person Events

Firstly, let’s talk about the differences between virtual and in-person events. The biggest (and most obvious) difference is that it is generally a lot harder to network and meet new people. I have made numerous new friends and acquaintances over the years at conferences through just casual interactions. Queuing for lunch, waiting for a session to start or just sat next to someone at a session. You get to meet and interact with a lot of new people, which will obviously be much harder for a virtual event.

However, I would encourage you to use the remote nature of the event to your advantage when it comes to interaction with the speakers. It is not uncommon at an event to find it hard to ask a speaker a question or further information after the talk if there are a number of people all doing so at once. I cannot think of an instance where I have seen a speaker at a remote event not provide some form of contact details, so reach out to them if you have a question, comment, whatever. You are almost guaranteed to get a reply and it is a great way of making a new connection.

More Speaker, More Content, More Spaces

Virtual events however tend to have a much broader range of speakers and can accommodate a greater number of attendees. As an example, the talk I gave at the recent Xforce Summit had over 1,000 people attend. I don’t think I have been to a conference where any of the sessions for speakers outside a keynote had that many attendees possible. With no constraints on room sizes or availability, you are more able to attend any session you want. I have lost count of the number of times at Dreamforce I have been unable to attend a session because it was oversubscribed.

Finally, the biggest difference for most people is cost. Attending any conference can cost you for a ticket, travel, potentially lodging as well. All of these items add up and I know are a consideration for us when we look at events to sponsor and attend. Virtual events are likely to be cheaper (if not free like the Xforce Summit) for a ticket and also do not incur any of the associated expenses.

Allocate Time and Avoid Distractions

One of the primary benefits of events is that you have time away form your day work to focus on learning. It can be very tempting to work on other items in the background whilst dialled in to be productive. This type of multitasking does not work and should be avoided. If attending a virtual event, try to keep this in mind and focus on the session exclusively when possible. Just as if you were in a room during a talk you wouldn’t be doing something else, apply the same thought here.

One difference here though is you can take much better notes virtually than often is possible in person. Know how to take a quick screenshot for later and open up any additional reading material. This makes it easy for you to implement what you have learned afterwards.

London’s Calling 2020 Review

London’s Calling is one of the conference highlights for us at Cloud Galacticos. It’s Europe’s largest community led event for Salesforce professionals which has been held around March since 2016. We’re big believers of supporting the Salesforce Ohana, so we’re proud once again to be sponsors.

London’s Calling TV

With the current Covid-19 situation, all events have been affected. So for the first time, the conference became a virtual event on Friday 20th March 2020, with London’s Calling TV. All sessions and the keynote were live streamed via Youtube, plus a Virtual Expo for the sponsors and DemoJam. There was even a chance to get a caricature done via webcam.

As sponsors we got to do a short video about the company. You can watch it here.

Teamwork

London's Calling Team

Even though it was very last minute and the first time it’s been done, the London’s Calling team pulled it together. There was some great feedback on Twitter throughout the day of the event. So let’s take this opportunity to congratulate Francis Pindar, Kerry Townsend, Todd Halfpenny, Louise Lockie, and Amanda Beard-Neilson for their hard-work and perseverance.

10 People to Meet at London's Calling 2020

As per last year, we did a ‘10 People You Should Meet’ infographic – which of course we updated to ‘10 People You Should Follow [on Twitter]’. And again, we did caricatures of each of the ten people and made them into stickers. Watch this space on how we plan to distribute the stickers once London’s Calling has confirmed a date for a ‘thank-you / after party’ event…

Again well done to the entire London’s Calling team, we hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Here’s to London’s Calling 2021…

Cloud Galacticos 2019 Highlights

Being the CEO of a Silver Partner Salesforce Consultancy and managing a UK-wide team of people is no mean feat. So it’s no surprise that Phil Walton, who is also in the Salesforce MVP Hall of Fame, has a rather busy calendar. As we reach the end of another successful year, he reflects back on some of his personal highlights of 2019.

For most Salesforce-ers Dreamforce is the highlight of the year. But for me, the London World Tour is the big one. OK so we didn’t have Fleetwood Mac or Alicia Keys, but it is a great chance for the UKI and European Salesforce Community to meet up in person.

We had a great day, meeting Clients and Partners old and new at our Gold stand. Plus we were joined by ex-Harlem Globetrotter and Britain’s tallest man Paul Sturgess, who not only attracted a lot of attention, but was a great guy to chat with!

I was very proud to be invited to speak at Africa’s first Salesforce community event – North Africa Dreamin! It was a great trip to Casablanca, where I met some great people, and had some amazing food. It is amazing to see the Salesforce Ohana spreading around the globe.

Team Galacticos

2019 has been a fantastic year for Cloud Galacticos, with excellent growth in revenue and people. We have also picked up a number of new certification skills, and industry expertise. Between the team we have bags of experience in Healthcare & Life Sciences and also Financial Services, so they are now our official specialisms (although we work in many other sectors).

We were really excited to welcome both Nkosi Ncube and Mike Gill (who you can see below at MuleSoft CONNECT 2019) to our development team. Both are smart, experienced, knowledgeable and great guys – exactly the type of people we want on the team!

We also welcomed Malcolm Heeley to the team towards the end of the year. Malcolm has a lot of experience as a business analyst and project manager which we cannot wait to use!

Also between the team we have picked up a number of new Consultancy and Architecture certifications, which we are very proud of! We have also begun to deliver training for Salesforce, fantastic recognition of our deep knowledge of the platform.

We also attended and helped run a number of user and developer groups in Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds – bringing Salesforce to the North of England! We had a variety of speakers including MulseSoft as you can see in the photo above.

Dreamforce 2019 Highlights

Dreamforce 2019 Highlights

As the dust settles on another Dreamforce and his jet lag fades, our head of marketing Ben Duong writes about his Dreamforce 2019 highlights:

Dreamforce 2019 is the sixth time I’ve attended what undeniably the main Salesforce event of the year – even with all the new upstarts like TrailheaDX and various Dreamin’ events.

As per previous years, this year’s Dreamforce had a jam-packed line up of sessions, speakers, parties, and much more. Add to that around 170,000 international attendees, it’s always going to be a full-on four days.

#Flying Solo

The main difference this year was that I was flying solo (normally it’s in attendance with the CEO of Cloud Galacticos, Phil Walton). This meant taking a different approach whilst attending the conference. First thing I did was to sign up to the ‘Dreamforce Ohana Golden Gate Bridge Walk’ – which I discovered through the Twitter community and Eric Dreshfield. It was a great pre-DF19 social meet up. I met various members of the Salesforce Ohana from Brazil, Japan and Ukraine. I also ended up bumping into them again at various times during the week which was nice.

Mainly, it was good catching up with James Ellis who is a regular at our North England user group.

#SalesforceOhana

Continuing the theme of meeting my #SalesforceOhana, there was an EMEA Trailblazer Get Together. It was a casual meet up of the #TrailblazerCommunity from the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions. As well as familiar faces from the UK, I also met people from Spain, Switzerland and Morocco.

And of course, one of the main party highlights was the UK & I reception party at the rather grand Hibernia Bank.

Learning

I attended some of the main keynotes, including the opening keynote with Marc Benioff, the Partner keynote, and Marketing keynote. I got a good overview of the latest updates relevant to me and Cloud Galacticos.

Plus I went to a few useful sessions relating to marketing such as, ‘5 Tips for Writing Awesome Salesforce Community Content’ with Lucy Mazalon (Salesforceben), and ‘5 Lessons Learned from Interviewing 50+ CMOs’ with Ian Faison and Benjamin Wilson (The Mission).

Mindfulness

Most attendees find Dreamforce overwhelming. It’s a perfect cocktail of four full days of sessions, parties, hoards of people, and LOTS walking. Luckily, this year there was a dedicated area of calm in the guise of the Plum Village Centre in Moscone South. I managed to do a 90-minute meditation workshop which helped centre myself again and was ready for DreamFest that evening.

DreamFest

Being a big music fan, Dreamfest is always one of my highlights, having managed to see the likes of the Foo Fighters, Blondie, and U2. This year was no different, with Beck supporting Fleetwood Mac.

It was held at the baseball stadium which is the perfect venue for any music event.

Salesforce World Tour London

Salesforce World Tour 2019

Salesforce World Tour London 2019

Cloud Galacticos at Salesforce London World Tour with paul Sturgess

It has been 2 weeks since it felt like the world turned up at the Salesforce World Tour at the ExCel centre in London. I have been going to this event since 2012 and every year it gets bigger and bigger.

Gold Sponsors

This year we were proud to once again be Gold sponsors and get to meet up with so many of our existing customers and meet the rest of the Salesforce community to see what they were up to. This was my first World Tour as a Galactico and the first time in about 18 months I had been at such a busy booth all day. I have never been so happy to sit down after 12 hours straight stood up.

The fun for the Galacticos team actually started the night before when we hosted an event for some of our customers, partners and friends at a rooftop bar venue in central London. This allowed us to have a catch up over some drinks and tasty canapes before the big day when everything gets a bit crazy. We had a great night, David the magician left me scratching my head and questioning myself for the next few days (how did he do it??), and I enjoyed getting to meet a few people face to face that I had only spoken to on the phone previously.

So, that’s it then, another year done and dusted? Well apart from following up on all the great conversations we had with everyone at the Partner Forum, our drinks event and the World Tour, we are also looking forward to seeing launching a new website in the coming months. Also, seeing how we can continue to expand our ever growing team with some of the fantastic people we met on the day who said they wanted to be a Galactico. So whilst the day may be done, the fun really starts now. Plus I still need to figure out how that magician made that card appear in the envelope!

Contact Us

Thank you again to everyone who came and spoke to myself or any of the team over the Partner Forum, our event or at the World Tour; meeting people and hearing what they are doing is truly my favourite part of these events. If you didn’t manage to speak to us but wanted to, please contact us below. I look forward to catching up!
