London's Calling 2022 Highlights

London’s Calling 2022 Highlights

The countdown to this year’s London’s Calling is truly on. Cloud Galacticos is a Platinum Sponsor, and we can’t wait to be back in London on Friday 10th June. So what can you expect from this year’s much anticipated in-person conference? Here are some of our London’s Calling 2022 highlights.

Europe’s Largest Salesforce Community-led Conference

London's Calling LogoThis year the event will be  in-person. After a couple of years of cancellations and false starts, this is exciting news. The Salesforce Ohana is an active and vibrant community of users. So being about to meet in person means a lot.

As always, it will be a jam-packed day of sessions, keynote speakers, and of course, not forgetting the after-party.

During the day, there will be 56 sessions covering all aspects of Salesforce. Why not check out the full schedule and take your pick?

If you’re stuck for ideas, we can recommend these two sessions from our very own team. Firstly, our COO Paul Battisson will be doing a session on ‘Getting the Job – Tips and Tricks for Salesforce Interviews and Careers’.

One of our Salesforce Consultants is also doing a session. Mark Jones will be talking about ‘Skills for Success: The Skills Every Admin Needs to Succeed in Their Career’.

Cloud Galacticos Platinum Sponsor Stand

UK's Strongest Man LogoCloud Galacticos will be one of two Platinum Sponsors alongside OwnBackup. Why not come to our stand to learn more about what we do for you? We can provide valuable insight and lessons learnt, answering any questions with having a collective wealth of knowledge that spans over 15 years as a partner for Salesforce.

On the day, you’ll be able to meet our growing team, along with our CEO Phil Walton. Plus, for one day only, a very special guest, Gavin Bilton. He is currently the UK’s Strongest man. So come to stand to find out more about us, and maybe even get to arm wrestle the World’s Strongest Man*?

Marketing Cloud Admin

Marketing Cloud Admin Certification

The latest Salesforce exam pass for our team is the Marketing Cloud Admin cert. Read on to find out Priya’s thoughts and tips on passing this exam.

What made you decide to take the Marketing Cloud Admin certification?

Priya Marketing Cloud Admin certI already have a lot of experience with Pardot, so I wanted to learn more about Marketing Cloud too. It’s always good to get formal certifications to back up your day-to-day real life experience.

And I’m always looking at ways to improve my Salesforce skills and add value to our clients at work.

How did you approach the prepare for the exam?

After joining Cloud Galacticos, Paul and Phil found that I was interested in Marketing Cloud. I was encouraged to take up the webinar sessions related to it. These training sessions, blogs & trails really helped me understand the concepts. A thing to mention is the amount of time and importance the company gives towards learning is highly appreciated and is what helps us to prepare.

Was it a difficult? Any tips for people thinking of doing this exam?

I found it to be on the tough side as I didn’t have much experience in exploring this platform practically. Though the amount of work I have put into it during my personal time has helped me a lot. I was able to score on the set up and configuration questions which contributed positively to my results. Below are the Section-Level Scoring for your reference:

Digital Marketing Proficiency: 62%

Subscriber Data Management: 60%

Setup: 78%

Channel Management: 80%

Maintenance: 55%

Tips would be to explore the application practically to get knowledge on the Configuration side and understand the terminology used in Marketing cloud.

What does passing the Marketing Cloud Admin cert mean to you in terms of your daily work?

This certification really adds value and helps us at Cloud Galacticos in getting more projects on Marketing Cloud. It can also help us in enhancing the existing projects and add more value to the existing customers.

Do you have any other certs you plan to take in the future?

I am aiming for Marketing Cloud Consultant certification. I have heard that this one is tricky but I shall prepare well and will hopefully pass in my first attempt just like all my other certifications.

Finally, I would like to thank Paul and Phil for encouraging and supporting me. While we are busy with the current  project schedules and supporting our clients, we are given time and resources to LEARN. This ‘Time’, ‘Support’ and ‘Encouragement’ is all that an employee needs to learn and up-skill.

Mark Jones Meet the Galacticos

Mark Jones, Salesforce Consultant – Meet the Galacticos

Continuing in our series in which you get to meet and learn more about the Cloud Galacticos team, say ‘hello’ to Mark Jones, one of our new Salesforce Consultants. I caught up with Mark to ask him a few questions.

Mark Jones, Salesforce Consultant

Hi Mark Jones, can you give us a bit of background about yourself and your work history?

Sure, I began my career training up as an Office Administrator, I then moved into printing for a local school for a while before moving back into Admin and eventually into the Salesforce workspace in 2016 getting my start in the Nonprofit sector. I’ve also spent time as a youth worker and an events organiser, planning music events for a variety of youth programmes in the North East of England.

What’s your story behind joining the Cloud Galacticos team?

Mark Jones Cloud GalacticosIt’s one of those stories where it kind of just happened.

I was interested in moving on from my previous role, so I reached out to Supermums as a recruiter. They organised a few interviews for me, one of them being with Cloud Galacticos.

I met with Paul and Neel for an interview and as they say the rest is history. I started a couple of months after that interview.

What is your role as a Salesforce Consultant at Cloud Galacticos. What do you enjoy about it?

I work as a Salesforce Consultant. So far my role has focused mainly on supporting existing clients with Admin related work, such as building Flows, building upon existing Salesforce functionality and providing end user support. In my time here, I’ve really enjoyed working in a team. In my prior role I was a Solo Admin, so I had to do everything on my own without a support mechanism around me.

Do you have plans to take any Salesforce certifications in the near future?

I’m always open to growing in what I do. Currently I’m working towards passing the Nonprofit Cloud Consultant certification, that’s my priority this year. There are other certifications I’m interested in including Slack Admin, both of the recently announced certifications, Design Strategist and Business Analyst and the Process Automation partner credential.

You have a busy few months ahead, travelling and speaking at various Salesforce events. Can you tell us more?

Over the course of May and June I will be speaking at Czech Dreamin’, London’s Calling, YeurDreamin’, and Salesforce World Tour London. The topics I am covering include skills for Salesforce Admins, personal branding and Flow. Over the next 5 weeks I’ll be back and forth to London and over to Prague and Amsterdam for these events. I’m also in the middle of co-founding a community conference about Process Automation.

At Cloud Galacticos, we’re a remote work focused company, what advice would you give people to make the most of working remotely and staying motivated?

One of the best ways to stay motivated is to actually take some time to get away from your desk. I say this because our health and wellbeing is so important, especially when we live in a world now where it is so easy to be permanently attached to our desks. If our health and wellbeing is in a good place it will have a positive effect on our work.

Aside from Salesforce and working at Cloud Galacticos, what else do you enjoy doing?

We have a couple of pets living at home, Jet our cat and Jacks our dog. Jacks is a labsky (labrador and husky cross). He’s a little under two years old and is full of energy, so he gives us a lot to do.

I also spend time with my local church where I lead a Bible study group and support one of our services as the on-hand tech guy.

Skills for Success

Skills for Success

Skills for Success is a new 14-part blog series. It ‘aims to help Salesforce Admins better understand and develop the skills needed to be successful in their role.’ One of the people behind it is our very own Mark Jones. He has worked with Juliette Warren, and hand-picked 14 awesome admins to contribute.

Skills for Success: #AwesomeAdmins

Launched at the end of April, Skills for Success will be spread over 12 weeks. It’s written by admins, for admins, who have real-world experience and knowledge.

Over the next 12 weeks, they will cover these 14 skills:

    1. Communication
    2. Problem Solving
    3. Attention to Detail
    4. Learner’s Mindset
    5. User Management
    6. Security Management
    7. Business Analysis
    8. Data Analysis
    9. Data Management
    10. Designer’s Mindset
    11. Change Management
    12. Process Automation
    13. Product Management
    14. Project Management

Story Behind Skills for Success

Mark came up with the idea for the Skills for Success blog series whilst watching an Admin Keynote at Dreamforce ’21. It was Rebecca Saar’s session on ‘The Future of Admin Success‘ that set the ball rolling.

“This discussion around skills really piqued my interest… I decided to reach out to different members of the Salesforce community.  [I invited] them to collaborate with me on a blog series that outlines what each skill is, why it’s important to the admin role, and how admins can learn and develop it.

It was through this process that I was fortunate enough to connect with Juliette Warren on the Admin Relations team at Salesforce who agreed to help bring the series to life on admin.salesforce.com.”

Blog Series

So every Tuesday for the next 12 weeks, they will releasing a new blog post that covers each of the 14 skills.

The first four are already available: Communication, Problem Solving, Attention to Detail, and Learner’s Mindset.

We really hope that you enjoy this series, and we would love to hear your plans for skill development throughout the next few months. Please share these posts on social media and get involved in the conversation using #AwesomeAdmin.

Ideally, we want to see this series reach every Salesforce Admin and help them continue their growth and development.

TrailblazerDX – Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #501

Welcome to Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #501

Tip 1 – TrialblazerDX

TrailblazerDXI’m still playing catch up on the highlights of TrailblazerDX, hopefully I can catch a few of the sessions on Salesforce+.

But one thing the team spotted was a couple of new Certs which will be coming soon.

The Business Analyst cert and Strategy Designer cert.

Tip 2 – Ranger Ranks

Another hotly anticipated announcement at TrailblazerDX was the new ranks for those with hundreds of Trailhead badges to their names.

At present, anything over 100 badges makes you a Ranger… but with many people with hundreds, or even over 1000, here are some new ranks to aim for.

Tip 3 – New Blog Series

Congratulations to our very own Mark Jones, and his many guests, on a new blog series he has been working on with Salesforce.

Keep an eye out for a new guest each Tuesday!

Salesforce Tip of the Week 500

Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #500

Welcome to Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #500 – a Special Edition!

When I started this blog in 2012, the aim was to share some of the things I had learned that week. It was designed to be a quick read, something where my Salesforce friends and colleagues could take a quick glance and hopefully find at least one of the Tips useful each week. I try to write this ‘live’ each and every Friday, to keep it fresh and relevant. And 499 weeks later, hopefully I am managing to do that…but I definitely wanted help this week!

To help me celebrate this BIG milestone, I reached out to the Salesforce Community/Ohana to some friends old and new, to share what their Tips would be.

Thank you to each of my special guests. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience!!

And thank YOU for reading, replying, sharing… you are what makes this!

THANK YOU

Jessica Langston, Senior Director, Trailblazer Community

With millions of Trailblazers around the world, one of the most special parts of the Salesforce ecosystem is the Trailblazer Community. Whether you’re connecting online or attending an in-person community event, the impact of sharing your knowledge and learning from others is monumental.

Be willing to put yourself out there by asking questions and providing guidance. The connections and experience you will gain is a proven game-changer.”

Ben McCarthy, aka SalesforceBen

Ben McCarthy Tip of the WeekIf you’re new to the Salesforce ecosystem, welcome! I hope you are finding this industry fun and exciting. Whilst routes into the ecosystem are fairly standard (E.g. Entry-level Admin, Developer, or Consultant), as you become more senior, you will no doubt need to specialise in a certain field, whether that is a niche role, product, or industry.

My advice is to pay attention to the aspects of your role you enjoy. Find out what tasks you find fun, and what elements of your job you want to focus on. The opportunities available in the Salesforce ecosystem are endless, and by focussing on what you actually enjoy, you can ensure you have a long and happy career.

Amanda Nelson, Senior Director, Salesforce AppExchange

Amanda Nelson Tip of the Week

The Community is always there to help you, answer your questions, and share solutions.

I’ve learned so much from fellow Trailblazers, so dive right in, be #appy, and #alwaysbelearning.”

Evaldas Zaranka, Salesforce Certified with over 1,500 Trailhead Badges

Evaldas Zaranka Tip of the WeekWhat’s the best thing I’ve learnt from speaking to people within the Community?”

There are so many talented Trailblazers joining the community events, and they are willing to share their knowledge and experience with Trailblazers.

In my role, the most important thing to learn is… Active listening from soft skills helps me build trust and understand our user’s needs.

I’m a Salesforce Administrator, so my Salesforce flow knowledge helps our business automate complex business processes and manual data entry. Our users can work smarter, not harder.

Doria Hamelryk, North Africa Dreamin’ Founder, Salesforce MVP

Doria Hamelryk Tip of the Week

“The best thing I’ve learned in this community is to always be grateful. There was a time when I knew nothing about Salesforce.

And I was lucky to be surrounded by people who helped me in my learning. They were there when I needed them to answer my questions, whether technical or more generally about my career development. When I became more experienced, I also wanted to help beginners.

There is an Arabic proverb that says: “teach and you will learn”. I think when you’re able to teach others, that’s when you can consider yourself an expert.

Tony Nguyen, Salesforce Admin and Golden Hoodie recipient

Tony Nguyen Tip of the WeekHi new Trailblazers! If there were only 1 tip that I could give you all. It would be falling in love with learning. I think this is one of the most important aspects when it comes to Salesforce and the Tech industry.

The world is always evolving and technology does at an even greater speed. Falling in love with learning would help you adapt to those changes!

Heather Black, CEO Supermums

Heather Black Tip of the WeekMy top tip would be that every Salesforce professional should have not only have the technical knowledge, but also professional training and skill set of business analysis, agile project management and change management to successfully implement Salesforce successfully and achieve high user adoption.

In my experience it’s the lack of application of these professional skills that causes Salesforce projects to go wrong. So if you are starting out or progressing in your career then make sure you invest in suitable training to ramp up your knowledge beyond Salesforce certifications.

Marciana Davis, Independent Salesforce Consultant, and Salesforce MVP

The best thing I learned from the community is to have faith and believe in yourself. You will have obstacles that will make a lot of noise, just make sure your dreams are louder.

The things you do matter and don’t ever forget that!

Zahra Bahrololoumi, CEO Salesforce UK&I

Zahra Bahrololoumi Tip of the WeekQ. What is the one free app/tool you can’t live without?

For me – and so many of my Salesforce colleagues – it would have to be Slack. We’re in an all-digital, work from anywhere world, and Slack really is our digital HQ. I love that I can send a video update, connect easily to anyone, create a group, prioritise my top channels, share files – the list goes on!

And some stats – for our Salesforce colleagues emails sent per user, per day are down 46% and individual and team productivity went up 16% and 13%, respectively. What’s not to love!

Melissa Hill Dees, Co-Founder of NonProfit Dreamin, Salesforce MVP

Melissa Hill Dees Tip of the Week“Automate what can be automated so humans have more time to do what should not be automated. Participate in an Open Source Community Sprint whether you are a brand new Salesforce admin or a seasoned veteran architect; everyone can learn and contribute!

And, remember:  501(c)3 is a tax designation–NOT a business model. Don’t forget to leverage all the standard corporate Salesforce tools as well as Nonprofit Cloud. #domoregood”

Lizzy Roberts, Manager of Global Community Engagement at Salesforce.Org

Lizzy Roberts Tip of the Week“Ask for help and don’t go it alone! There are no silly questions and there is an amazingly supportive community to help you find answers. There is SO much knowledge in the Salesforce community, whether virtually in the Trailblazer Community or in person at a user group that there is truly always someone ready to offer a helping hand (or even just to say hi!). Two specific groups I would recommend are the 1) Salesforce.org Hub and 2) Coffee Chats in the Trailblazer Community.”

And finally…

Leah McGowen-Hare, SVP Trailblazer Community

Leah McGowen-Hare Tip of the Week“Never. Stop. Learning! Take full advantage of the free access to learning that Salesforce offers. On Trailhead, you can learn tech skills, business, and soft skills, then test your knowledge with hands-on challenges and earn credentials. On Salesforce+, you can tune into virtual learning content for business professionals and inspiring original series, like Trailblazer.

The best part is, that you don’t have to go on this journey alone. Tap into the amazing Trailblazer Community – a global network of people who want to help. With access to learning content, incredible stories of inspiration, and a global community cheering you on, all you need to bring is your determination!”

dreamOle: Paul’s Session

Paul’s session will be ‘10 Things Every Salesforce Consultant Can Learn From Jurassic Park.’

“I’m really looking forward to giving this talk as it’s less techie than many of those I give and is also a little more fun and tongue-in-cheek, although there is a serious message. Jurassic Park is a fantastic movie that a lot of people will remember and recognise, and hopefully I can make people smile whilst giving some good advice.”
