Managed Services Summit Review

Managed Services Summit Review

Some of our team attended the Managed Services Summit North in Manchester. The conference is focused on Managed Service Providers. The event’s aim is to address how northern MSPs can ‘keep ahead of the curve’ and further develop their service offerings. It  was a chance for our new Managed Services Lead, David Schrimpton to get the latest industry updates and network with MSPs.

Managed Services Summit Keynote

The opening keynote was from Katie Gallagher from Manchester Digital on ‘The Essence of Leadership’. She gave a great presentation on the overview of the UK economy and latest leadership stats.

She mentioned that ‘permacrisis’ is Collin’s Word of 2022 which reflects the ‘extended period of instability and insecurity’ we are experiencing this year (so far). We should use this opportunity to focus on digital transformation that’s happening across all industries.

Guest Keynote

The after lunch guest keynote speaker was from former Olympian Darren Campbell. It was an inspirational speech about his journey both on and off the track. He spoke about his humble beginnings in Manchester and how he got to where he is today.

He also spoke about lessons learnt and provided insights from the world of professional sports that can help business leaders to propel their own organisations forward.

The closing coming was letting us know that leaders aren’t born and that ‘anyone can become a leader’.

Managed Services Summit Sessions

Throughout the day there was a selection of interesting sessions covering various topics. There was a strong focus on cyber security; ‘How to Stop Hacks in the Tracks with Improved IT Visibility’, ‘Evolving your Security Offering with Cybersecurity as a Service’, ‘Fighting Ransomware with Allow Listing and Ringfencing’. Other topics covered included automation, shareholder value, and supporting customers.

There was also an expo room full of sponsors offering different areas of managed services.

Final Thoughts

Here are couple of takeaways from David:

I think the small pool of talent continues to challenge the tech industry in the UK. Katie Gallagher in the opening keynote challenged attendees to help provide opportunities to the unskilled and underprivileged. There’s a lot of think about as we move into 2023.”

Katie also mentioned that as the UK, and indeed the world, lurches from one crisis to the next, it’s creating a state of permacrisis. Should it worry us? Yes, it should. But it should also provide exciting opportunities for MSPs, as organisations turn to technologies like salesforce to save time and money and create efficiencies.

Paul O'Dowd Cloud Galacticos

Paul O’Dowd – Meet the Galacticos

Continuing in our series in which you get to meet and learn more about the Cloud Galacticos team, say ‘hello’ to our Sales Director Paul O’Dowd. I caught up with Paul to ask him a few questions.

Paul O’Dowd, Sales Director

Hi Paul, can you give us a bit of background about yourself and your work history?

Paul O'Dowd, Cloud GalacticosAs a sales professional, I come with a broad industry knowledge spanning more than 20 years. My industry focus and interest lie at the intersection of business transformation, tech, and the utilisation of Salesforce.

Past experiences include working with Telecoms, Insurance, Finance, Commercial, and Automotive sectors to FTSE 500 organisations from Aviva, O2 Telefonica, BT, and BAE Systems to Compass, not forgetting Local Authorities and Government.

What’s your story behind joining the Cloud Galacticos team?

Quite simply, wanting to be part of one of the best Salesforce Partner Consultancies out there – of course, you may argue it’s my opinion, but that is also the opinion of many I have spoken too. Plus, the opportunity to add value to an already successful organisation and with adding my knowledge and experience gained over the years. Being part of a team that is passionate about getting things done right, first time and with a deep-rooted interest in making the client happy with delivering results.

What is your role as a Sales Director at Cloud Galacticos, and what do you enjoy about it?

Directing my energy and focus on establishing new business opportunities, building partnership relationships and creating a balanced but realistic target for sales generation. I am at my best when tackling complex problems, uncovering new insights, creating business opportunities, and driving diverse perspectives towards a unified vision. I consider myself focused on digital transformation by finding a way to do all this while helping people along the way!

At Cloud Galacticos, we’re a remote work focused company. What advice would you give people to make the most of working remotely and staying motivated?

Remote working for some can be a daunting prospect. If you have been in an office environment for most of your career and now you can’t just turn to the person next to you for polite conversations or advice. My advice is to keep connected to those in your organisation. We have a weekly ‘coffee catch up’. It creates opportunities during a week to connect with people and to not talk about work but life in general.

Separate from this is the ability to connect, discuss and share information through the use of systems and tools. We use Slack which is a great communication tool. It lets you reach out to your colleagues when in need of advice or support.

Aside from Salesforce and working at Cloud Galacticos, what else do you enjoy doing?

My escape is teaching children martial arts, or to be more precise – Taekwon Do. It’s been over 20 years of making my way through the ranks of beginner to the heights of instructor and national umpire.

The greatest reward is seeing someone build in confidence with the once shy retiring individual being able to stand up confidently in their ability to protect themselves. And, in most instances, that child (in this case) going to University due to the embedded learning aspect of the martial art taught.

Tip 3 – Benioff’s Way

Marc Benioff

Everyone knows I’m a Marc Benioff fanboy (who isn’t??). So it’s no surprise that he recently got the Creative Executive’s CEO of the Year 2022.

Always an inspiration the article has some advice for other CEOs and the Salesforce eco-system.

Salesforce Managed Services

Salesforce Managed Services

The tech industry is continually evolving, and with Salesforce it’s even more prevalent. Being at the forefront of technology is a strong focus at Salesforce. There are several new releases a year, with documentation covering hundreds of pages. At Cloud Galacticos we pride ourselves on keeping on top of the latest updates. We also encourage our team to keep on learning, and take exams to stay top of the game. That’s why we encourage all our customers to look into our Managed Services offering.

Cloud Galacticos Managed Services Team

Managed ServicesWe have a dedicated Managed Services team to help your business with all your Salesforce needs. The team includes experienced business analysts, technical architects, developers and Salesforce Consultants.

For many organisations it is too costly to recruit a full time Salesforce team member who has the knowledge to be able to support them effectively. A managed services partnership with Cloud Galacticos takes care of this. It allows you to have access to our team of skilled and knowledgeable professionals who can support you as needed and guide you to improving your Salesforce instance over the long term.

Stay up to date with Salesforce

Managed Services Stay UpdatedSalesforce has three releases a year during which an entirely new set of free features get rolled out to your environment.

It’s always a surprise to us when we meet customers who weren’t aware of this. Many had gone years without reviewing the features they had available to them, again effectively leaving money on the table.

As a managed services partner, Cloud Galacticos will work with you consistently to discuss the updates Salesforce are releasing. We will also suggest how to best utilise them to make sure you are taking advantage of the updates.

We believe in maximum automation, minimum manual effort.

Long Term Salesforce Strategy

Long Term VisionAnother big reason we love engaging with clients on a managed services basis is that it truly moves us to being long term collaborative partners.

If organisations engage with a partner on a per project basis, short term aims can overtake long term vision and strategy. A managed services partnership can help to ensure that going forward the long term vision is maintained and improved upon.

Also, being a Cloud Galacticos managed services partner can help with scalability; you can add resources as you add to your Salesforce stack.

Managed Services Summit

Some of the Cloud Galacticos team will be in Manchester on Wednesday 16th November for the Managed Services Summit. The event, which takes place at Manchester Central, is seen as the leading managed services event for the UK and European channel.

I’m excited to have joined Cloud Galacticos as the Managed Services Lead. The managed services team are not just Salesforce certified, but they also have years of practical experience in business, solving complex problems with technology.

And I’m very much looking forward to attending the Managed Services Summit in Manchester. There are interesting industry sessions and keynotes, plus it’d be a great opportunity to network with my peers.David Shrimpton, Managed Services Lead

If you’re planning on attending, let us know, and we’ll arrange a meeting.

Community Impact Report – Tip of the Week #525

Welcome to Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #525

Tip 1 – Community Impact Report

Salesforce Community Impact Report 2022

The Salesforce.org Community Impact Report 2022 is out now.

In this fifth annual report they highlight how their ‘customers are using the resources provided by Salesforce.org and our partners to create and amplify their social impact

“Although the challenges we’re facing as a global community continue to compound, our global community of changemakers in the nonprofit and education sectors continues to address these challenges head-on to drive tangible and inspiring social impact”

Tip 2 – Restriction Rules

Restriction Rules

Thanks to our Salesforce Consultant, James for this tip on restriction rules.

“Since the Winter 22 release Salesforce have introduced Restriction Rules. These bolt on nicely onto the existing sharing model and allow an administrator to further control what records a user can access.

Restriction rules will certainly be helpful, I would test them thoroughly in a sandbox to ensure they behave as expected and in accordance with the existing sharing model. I would also use them sparingly and only apply them when access to records really needs to be restricted at a more granular level than that provided by the existing sharing model”
